For all of us here at Hog Roast Offwell, of course, every day is hog roast day. But did you know that there is actually such a thing as National Hog Roast Day? Yes, really – and trust us, you won’t want to miss it ever again!
If this is your first time hearing about it (don’t worry, you’re forgiven!), National Hog Roast Day takes place on the 18th of December every year and celebrates the long-standing delicacy of a slow-roasted pig. While it’s not quite as big a celebration, as let’s say…Christmas; it is one day of the year that we very much look forward to for obvious reasons. And having missed out on the opportunity to enjoy the official holiday last year, our team was even more excited than usual for the date to roll around once again this year. We were even more fortunate that the 18th fell on a Saturday this time, which allowed more people to get involved!
For this year’s National Hog Roast Day, the Hog Roast Offwell catering team were booked to serve our Classic Hog Roast Menu at an indoor Christmas craft fair. The event had been organised by members of the local community and was held in the nearby town hall.
On the day of the event, our team spent all morning preparing the perfect spit roast for locals to enjoy, which consisted of beautifully tender shredded pork served on crunchy wholemeal and gluten-free rolls with crispy pork rind, savoury sage and onion stuffing, applesauce and a side of home-cut fries. They also filled a chafing dish with hickory-steeped pulled jackfruit, which was then served in rolls with a vegan coleslaw dressing to any non-meat-eating attendees.
Despite the dreary winter weather, the day was a huge success all around, and our Hog Roast Offwell team couldn’t have been more pleased with the outcome. Their marvellous creation put a smile on everyone’s face, and quite a few people even pocketed our business cards for future reference! The event planners have also been in touch since then to share their thanks once again for making the day a wonderful experience for everyone who showed up.
