You know the old saying, less is more? Well, Sophie and Tom’s wedding proved that one right.
Like a lot of couples these days, they weren’t interested in a huge do with a hundred distractions pulling focus from what the day was actually about. What they wanted instead was something smaller and by its very nature, a lot more intimate. These kind of get-togethers actually have a name now: micro weddings. They usually have somewhere between 20 and 50 guests, and if your gut reaction is that fewer guests means less fun, you’d be wrong – dead wrong, actually.
Sophie and Tom might have kept their list to 35 guests, but they also had Hog Roast Stroud in their corner. We weren’t part of the bridal party, obviously, but we did have one job that mattered just as much: cooking and serving the very first meal this couple would eat as husband and wife.
Fitting the relaxed, unfussy tone of the day while still bringing something a bit special to the table, Hog Roast Stroud put together our Alfresco Menu, built around a grazing-style antipasti spread as the centrepiece. Italian meats, cheeses, artisanal breads, dips and dressings, pork pies, scotch eggs, mini quiches, cocktail sausages, sausage rolls – you name it, this spread had everything and guests couldn’t get enough of it. It was the kind of table you could pick at happily for hours.
But before everyone had filled themselves up too much at the grazing table, we rolled out the main event: the hog roast. Crackling and all, with stuffing, applesauce, and soft buns on the side, this main was every bit as show-stopping as you’re picturing. On the other hand, we had grilled veggie kebabs and BBQ-pulled jackfruit buns for anyone skipping the meat, plus fresh side salads, a
proper hearty potato dish, and coleslaw to round everything out, so guests had plenty to play with when building their plates.
A couple of gorgeous desserts wrapped the whole thing up on a sweet note, and honestly, our team had just as good a time putting it all together as the guests did eating it.
Sophie and Tom couldn’t have been happier with how the day went. From start to finish, Hog Roast Stroud stayed professional, warm and genuinely invested in making sure everyone left properly full and properly happy.
