Here at Hog Roast Plymouth, we have the pleasure of being a part of special milestones. And last week, we had the honour of catering for a retirement party for Jean, hosted at Compton C of E Primary School in Plymouth. 60 guests gathered to celebrate a remarkable career and say a fond farewell. And, the party was made even better by a comforting hog roast was a massive hit.
The menu was decided by Joan’s colleagues, who thought a hog roast would make the perfect fit. Our catering manager, Alistair, and the team arrived early to our equipment set up on-site. As the event started at 7.30 pm, we got the huge pig roasting on the spit by mid-afternoon, cooking low and slow. And, as our crackling is always a crowd favourite, we made sure there was plenty to go around. We served it on soft bread rolls and wraps (including gluten-free bread) with all the trimmings, including sage and onion stuffing and apple sauce.
To make sure that everyone had enough to fill up on, Hog Roast Plymouth also served our crisp mixed salad and gourmet coleslaw. And, of course, we didn’t forget about vegetarian and vegan guests. On offer were our grilled vegetable and halloumi skewers, served with wraps and a choice of tzatziki or a punchy sweet chilli sauce. For the plant-based crowd, we also brought out our vegan pulled jackfruit, slow-cooked in a smoky hickory BBQ sauce. Even our meat eaters were curious to see if it tasted like the real thing. And guess what? They were blown away by its authentic pork flavour.
We were so honoured to play a part in Jean’s special day. Colleagues and students shared happy memories, and we loved hearing them. Good food always brings people together. Our hog roast did just that.
We want to send our thanks to Jean for letting us be part of such a meaningful occasion. If you’re planning a retirement party or a similar occasion, Hog Roast Plymouth is always happy to bring our quality menus and first-class service to your event.
