Art galleries are a fantastic way for budding artists to get their name and work out there to the masses while also having the chance to derive inspiration from other people’s creations. And if all goes well, they might even sell a few pieces or commissions to local art enthusiasts who use these openings as a way of discovering new talent!
While we don’t profess to know much about painting styles, art history and brush strokes, ourselves, Hog Roast North Molton, loves getting called out to these kinds of events. Our team thoroughly enjoys gazing upon the phenomenal artworks and having the opportunity to showcase our own kind of art – that, of course, being the art of hog roasting! So, it was a good day for us when gallery owner, Catriona, invited us along to a small art opening night she was hosting.
The venue is located a few miles outside of our usual stomping grounds, but our catering managers, Adam and Stacey, assured the client that this wouldn’t be a problem. The only change Hog Roast North Molton had to make on this occasion was leaving slightly earlier to ensure they arrived in plenty of time to prepare the Classic Hog Roast buffet that Catriona had asked for.
Once on-site, Hog Roast North Molton worked quickly to set up the grill and catering equipment at the back of the hall, so as not to draw any attention away from the art. Adam and Stacey then readied the pig for grilling by scoring the skin, pouring water over it and rubbing the meat with salt, which is how we create that extra crispy crackling we’re renowned for.
As the meat slowly cooked above a deep layer of savoury sage and onion stuffing, our team set out the serving tables with bamboo wooden crockery and cutlery, napkins, condiments and a basket of gluten-free and wholemeal rolls. They also prepared a large bowl of homemade applesauce, gourmet coleslaw, salads and grilled vegetable skewers with tzatziki dip and flatbreads.
Our striking spit-roast held its own among the other artworks in the gallery, but while the gorgeous fragrances and theatrical appearance drew everyone in, it was the taste that people stuck around for! The soft and juicy meat paired perfectly with the tangy applesauce and crunchy crackling, which resulted in an explosion of tantalising flavours.
