Last weekend, our Hog Roast Halberton team had the pleasure of catering for our first autumnal-themed wedding of the year, after loved-up couple, Serena and Joe, tied the knot in a stunning cornfield ceremony nearby.
The outdoor-loving duo had wanted to take advantage of Devon’s gorgeous landscapes, and so they had chosen a beautifully placed farm for their big day, which had a converted barn on-site for hosting their reception meal, first dance and cake-cutting traditions later on in the afternoon. Not forgetting the idyllic views that surrounded the building, which added an air of romance to the dreamy destination and provided the perfect backdrop for wedding photos.
Hog Roast Halberton’s serving team, led by our catering manager, Adam, were the first to get a peek of the venue in its full glory before the wedding party showed up. They had arrived at the striking setting bright and early that morning, where they led the charge on setting up the rustic wooden tables with pampas grass and mason jar decorations as well as chalk-written place cards. They also laid out the wooden cutlery, hung the string lights across the beams and then set to work preparing a gorgeous, harvest-time banquet of expertly roasted free-range pork with a crunchy outer layer of salt-infused crackling, which when carved, revealed an inside of soft and juicy meat.
The spit-roasted pork was, as always, served with our homemade sage and onion stuffing and applesauce accompaniments, as well as an irresistible combination of salad and coleslaw side dishes and garlic and rosemary roast potatoes. On this occasion, those following meat-free diets were offered our tasty hickory-steeped pulled jackfruit rolls with a vegan-friendly coleslaw topping.
As the guests began to arrive at the barn, hungry and eager to celebrate after posing for the photographer, they were immediately overwhelmed by the gorgeous, meaty fragrances that billowed from the HogMaster. Hog Roast Halberton’s servers then quickly helped everyone find their seats, where they were met with a sharing antipasti platter of Italian meats, cheeses and artisan breads, followed by the hog roast main course and a choice of desserts to finish.
For the newlyweds, their big day was everything they hoped it would be and more, and we’ve since received glowing feedback from the couple as thanks for making their wedding a wonderful experience!
